This exercise is all about dreaming big. It’s about choosing exactly how you want your life to be.

Not how your parents want it to be. Not how your friends think it should be. Not what your partner wants for you. Not how your children would have it be. This is all you.

Here’s what you need for the exercise:

  • A large sheet of paper - say, A3 or bigger (if you only have A4, that’s fine, you just might want a few sheets so you can draw BIG!)

  • Some coloured pens - sharpies or felt tips, whatever you have to hand

Here’s what you also need for the exercise:

  • The ability to set any and all negative thoughts and obstacles aside for the duration of the exercise.

If any thoughts come up like: “I can’t have that because I don’t know how I’ll get it”, “I don’t have the money”, “…the resources”, “I can’t leave that behind”, “I can’t because x, y, z…” then put them in a box. Lock the box. They are not for now.



Have your coloured pens and paper to hand, and when you are ready, play the clip below. The clip is about ten minutes long and asks questions about your dream life. In response to each question, draw the answer as a picture using your coloured pens. Let the creativity really flow, and just draw whatever comes up - some things may surprise you!

The drawings don’t have to be perfect, they are absolutely fine as they are.

You are given a small amount of time to draw each answer, but don’t worry if you are not ready for the next question, you can always pause the clip if you want to.

Live Your Best Life Exercise example

Once you have completed the exercise, have a think about how it went, and you can just write the answers to the following questions:

  • What surprised you?

  • What did you already know about yourself?

  • Which one area would you like to make a change in now?

  • On a scale of 1-10, where 10 is the best it could be, and 1 is not very good, how would you rate this area of your life right now?

  • What would it be like if it were an 8 or 9?

  • How would that feel?

  • What would be possible if it were an 8 or 9?

  • What is the one step you could take this week to move you towards this?
